For starters, there’s this classic found-footage horror film produced, written, directed, photographed and edited by Oren Peli.

It centers on a young couple (played by Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat) who experience a supernatural presence in their home.

They decide to set up a camera to document the haunting, and the film makes great use of found footage conventions that have been mirrored in later – and lesser – films in the series.

Originally developed as an independent feature and screened at film festivals in 2007, the film was made for just $15,000, which wouldn’t cover a day’s catering on most Hollywood productions.

It was later acquired by Paramount Pictures and altered, including a new ending that cost an additional $200,000. It went on to gross nearly $200 million at the box office.

Followed at 10:40 p.m. by Parkinson Interviews Ingrid Bergman. Also preceded at 9 p.m. by the classic Bergman/Bogart casablanca.
