The messages come in addition to the growing number of urgent requests made to Trump or his close associates during the rally. But for hours, Trump did not listen to their calls.
Among the messages of the stars of Fox:
– “Hey Mark, the president has to tell the people on Capitol Hill to go home… it’s hurting us all… he’s destroying his legacy,” wrote Laura Ingraham.
– “Please put it on TV.” Destroy everything you’ve accomplished, ”Brian Kilmeade wrote.
– “Can he make a statement?” … Ask people to leave the Capitol, ”urged Sean Hannity.
Panel members said the texts illustrated what they said were crucial questions only Meadows could answer: How did he respond to those messages? Who did he talk to about it? And what actions has Trump taken in response?
Meadows’ attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment, although he did send a seven-page letter to the selection panel on Monday morning calling on them to stay their contempt dismissal.
But Meadows weighed in during an appearance on Fox News later Monday with Hannity.
“At this point, Sean, you know, it’s going to be in the hands of the DOJ,” he said. “I can say this, that when you look at the criminal component of it, the intent – there was never any intent on my part.”
During his remarks, President Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) Said the panel will interview a dozen “key witnesses” this week, putting the panel above the 300 mark. This is in addition to the 30 ,000 registrations and 250 tips via the panel’s counseling line, Thompson said.
The committee released an additional set of texts that showed lawmakers sympathized with Trump’s efforts to interfere with the Jan.6 certification of the 2020 election.
An unidentified lawmaker told Meadows: “On January 6, 2021, Vice President Mike Pence, as Speaker of the Senate, should call any electoral votes he deems unconstitutional because no electoral votes at all.”
“The president must stop this as soon as possible,” an anonymous lawmaker wrote to Meadows on January 6.
Another unidentified lawmaker told Meadows after the attack: “Yesterday was a terrible day. We have tried everything we can in our objection to the 6 states. I’m sorry that nothing worked.
