Google opens training program for journalists ahead of assembly polls in India

The Election Commission of India earlier this month announced polling dates for five states in India including Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The polls are taking place in seven phases starting February 10 and are due to end on March 7. The results will be revealed on the day of the count on March 10.

Google, in an effort to help journalists cover the elections in the five states, is offering training and also helping them use technology tools to improve their work in terms of delivering more visually appealing news, also being able to separate false and authentic information, etc. .

The company’s Google News Initiative India training network arm, in conjunction with DataLEADS, invites scribes and journalism students to register for PollCheck 2022: Covering Elections in India.

“The workshop is designed to help build digital journalism skills and uncover a range of tools, tips and techniques – from Google and beyond – that can help journalists prepare their election story,” said said the company.
